LABRADOR SEA MODIS (Aqua) imagery are presented here as daily and monthly composites. The offical starting date of this archive is June 25, 2004. Monthly composites are posted at the end of each month. Only limited quality control has been applied. Please take this fact into consideration when trying to interpret these data.

The chlorophyll product provided here is MODIS chlor_a2 (OC3M) and the SST product is calculated using the MODIS 11 micron non-linear SST algorithm.

Two MODIS data streams are provided on this website: Real-time and Refined. Real-time products are posted the same day as the Aqua overpass, and are generated using climatological ancillary data. When quality contolled 'optimal' ancillary data become available (5-10 days after the overpass), the image products are recalculated by NASA and provided to us. When this occurs, the Real-time product is replaced by the Refined product. You can tell which product you are viewing by the title in the upper-left of the image (Real-time products contain the words 'Real-Time' while the Refined products do not.) Monthly composites are made using the Refined data products only.
